Mary Rose Shelley graduated with highest honors from Drake University Law School on May 13, 2017. Throughout law school, she was president of Drake Law Women and served as the deputy online editor on the editorial board of the Drake Law Review. The Drake Law Review selected her Student Note for publication, which is titled Talking About the Taboo Topic of Death: State and Federal Initiatives to Reach Informed Consent at the End of Life. While at Drake, she got experience as a Student Attorney through the Transactional Clinic and Elder Law Clinic. The Iowa Taxpayers Association chose her as the recipient of the 2016 Linda S. Weindruch Scholarship. The purpose of this award is to recognize outstanding accomplishments and the educational pursuit of experiences promoting and protecting the principles of fair business and law policies.

She received her bachelor’s in economics from the University of Northern Iowa, where she graduated magna cum laude. While at UNI, she was president of Orchesis Dance Company, a dance company of students interested in pursuing the choreography, performance and production of ballet, jazz, modern and tap styles of dance. She also studied abroad in Nicaragua with a group of economics students that helped build and paint a water shed at the local village school.
She grew up in Jefferson, Iowa, where she worked many hours at her mother’s local café and was actively involved in academics, sports and dance. In her free time, she enjoys dancing, biking the trails of the Cedar Valley and watching local bands.
